Steve J Bourne is a retired graphic designer, and a volunteer falconer.

While he wrote stories when younger, the pressures of jointly running a small advertising agency from 1981 to 2014, and then working from home, meant there was little time to devote to writing for pleasure.

Just prior to the Covid epidemic he lost his younger brother to cancer, and as part of his grieving process wrote the short story, Splinter: A Tale of the Forest, which resulted in a rekindled love of writing. When paid work slowed down during the pandemic, several more short stories followed, shortly to be published in the collection, A Bucket of Feathers.

His love of reading, nurtured by his late mother from an early age, has never left him, and in the intervening years he has read countless books across various genres. His favourite authors are Thomas Hardy, Michael Moorcock, Iain Banks, Ian McEwan, Stephen Donaldson, Joanne Harris, Terry Pratchett, Kazou Ishiguru, Kate Atkinson, Jasper Fforde, Jeanette Winterson and many more.

In the April of 2021 he began working on his first novel, The Man Who Fell Off A Mountain; a process that was to take over five years to complete.

When not writing, Steve enjoys walking, spending time with friends and family, reading, coffee, the occasional malt whisky and playing modern board games.

He is currently working on more short stories and ideas for a second novel. He lives in the Midlands with his wife, Helen, and a growing Lego collection.
